Planning

I have chosen to land on the song "From The Start" by popular singer and songwriter Laufey. Laufey Lín Bing Jónsdóttir is a half Icelandic, half Chinese artist born on April 23rd, 1999. She is famous in the younger generation for her slower, romantic songs to deal with heartbreak and yearning in which people find relatability. Alongside good lyricism, her instrumentals are often very catchy and engaging, making her a prime candidate for my project. In specific, I chose "From The Start" as my song of choice because of its easy to understand lyrics and long drawn out musical periods where singer Laufey is scatting. These sections resonate with me as it gave me the inspiration to have my main character dancing along to these sounds, without a care in the world where he enters and exits the scene on a fixed camera angle giving a lighthearted tone. I think the metaphor and representation such a scene can provide will really make my video standout as compared to other vi...

What are the different types of music videos? In my research I found of about 4 main types of music videos: performative, narrative, conceptual and lyrical  (EpikMusicVideos). All of these styles are quite self explanatory, in performance there is a singer/performer actually performing the song in real time (whether live or through lip sync) and is quite a popular form of music video. Aiding to it is its ease in creation. There's less thought involved in making it as there does not need to be an inherent story line to it, just get someone to perform. This style takes more to its use of different camera angles. The second type, narrative, is similar to performative but instead of someone singing/performing the song, its focused on following a storyline. Here, there is more thought put into the semiotics and characters to engage the audience in the video too. The third type, conceptual, is different to these two. It is more abstract, often heavy handed in metaphors and focused on mak...

Hello, my name is Musa Mudassar. I am an A2 student studying in Westminster. This blog serves as the platform on which I will present the undertaking of creating my final project, a music video, alongside my journey towards reaching the position in making it. While I am presented with the opportunity to create a traditional music video incorporating styles and elements of Qawwali Pakistani music, I do not believe I will go down this route. A famous singer asked me to make such a video for him but to be honest, I believe I excel more in indie style videos. Quick cuts, metaphorical props, an almost "unprofessional" video, I believe I resonate more with this style and thus will most likely go down this route.      A bit about myself, I am something of an all-rounder. In college people know me best for sports, for being the kid outside all day playing and the only person starting on both the volleyball and basketball team, having won over 10 trophies this ...
